The United Nations declared 2022 as the year to "Only One Earth," emphasizing the urgent need to restore balance between humans and nature. With the theme of "Land Restoration Desertification and Drought Resilience," this year's World Environment Day on June 5th will highlight the significance of restoring degraded land to combat desertification and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

Desertification on the Rise

Desertification, the process by which fertile land transforms into arid and unproductive desert, is a growing global concern. Driven by deforestation, unsustainable agriculture, and climate change, desertification has already affected over 3 billion people worldwide and threatens to displace millions more. This degradation of land intensifies droughts, exacerbates poverty, and undermines food security.
