Restoration of 5080 Nearing Completion

The Great Western Railway (GWR) 4073 Class steam locomotive 5080, known as "Defiant," is set to return to service after a significant restoration project. The locomotive, originally named "Ogmore Castle," was completed at Swindon in 1939 and will once again grace the rails of the mainline. The 4073 Class, also known as the Castle Class, are iconic steam locomotives known for their reliability and performance.
The restoration of 5080 has been a labor of love for the Vintage Trains team. After being acquired from Barry scrapyard in 1964, the locomotive has undergone extensive repairs and rebuilds. The project is now nearing completion, with 5080 expected to return to service in the near future.
