Mark Kerrigan Accused of Assault

WEB WOBURN Mass Reuters - Mark Kerrigan, the Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan’s 46-year-old brother, is on trial for manslaughter in the death of his father, Daniel Kerrigan, 70. On May 24, 2010, Daniel Kerrigan was found dead in his Woburn home after an alleged altercation with his son, Mark. The police report states that Mark Kerrigan told police that he had pushed his father during an argument, causing him to fall and hit his head. Mark Kerrigan has pleaded not guilty to assault and battery charges.

Kerrigan Acquitted of Involuntary Manslaughter

On Wednesday, a jury convicted Mark Kerrigan of assault and battery but acquitted him of involuntary manslaughter. The jury deliberated for about three hours before reaching a verdict. The involuntary manslaughter charge was dismissed by the judge before the case went to the jury.

In a statement after the verdict, Nancy Kerrigan said that she was "heartbroken" by her brother's conviction. "I love my brother very much, and I know that he loved our father," she said. "This has been a very difficult time for our family, and we are still trying to process everything that has happened."

Mark Kerrigan is scheduled to be sentenced on June 27.
